Medication Availability for Alcohol Use Disorder in Substance Use Disorder Treatment Facilities

What were the trends in availability of medications for alcohol use disorder (MAUD) in US substance use disorder treatment facilities (SUDTFs) from 2017 to 2023, and which county characteristics were associated with their presence?In this cross-sectional study of SUDTFs in 3153 counties across 22 000 county-years, the proportion of counties with at least 1 SUDTF offering MAUD increased from 34% in 2017 to 44% in 2021 but did not rise further through 2023. Rural, smaller, and socioeconomically disadvantaged counties were significantly less likely to have MAUD-offering SUDTFs.Policies supporting MAUD-providing facilities may be needed to address persistent gaps in access.
