Can a mobile message–based intervention improve cardiovascular risk factors among patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes? In this 12-month randomized clinical trial of 819 adults with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes comorbid with cardiovascular disease risk factors, when compared with usual care, adults receiving the message-based intervention had significant improvements in hemoglobin A levels and systolic blood pressure. These findings suggest that mobile message–based strategies for improving glycemic control and cardiovascular disease risk factors should be considered for adults with type 2 diabetes.
