Transcatheter or Surgical Treatment of Patients With Aortic Stenosis at Low to Intermediate Risk
JAMA Cardiology 10.1001/jamacardio.2025.3403August 30, 2025 at 11:30 AM EDT
What are the 1-year outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) compared to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) at low to intermediate surgical risk?An individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis was performed including 4 investigator-initiated randomized clinical trials comparing TAVI vs SAVR in 2873 patients and complemented by an aggregate data meta-analysis including 4 industry-sponsored trials. TAVI was associated with significantly lower 1-year risk for all-cause death or any stroke compared to SAVR.This IPD and aggregate data meta-analysis confirmed existing 1-year results of TAVI compared to SAVR for patients at low to intermediate risk.
