Adenotonsillectomy and Blood Pressure in Children With Mild Obstructive Sleep-Disordered Breathing

Does early adenotonsillectomy improve blood pressure (BP) outcomes in children with mild obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (oSDB)?This exploratory analysis of data from the Pediatric Adenotonsillectomy Trial for Snoring, which included 458 children with mild oSDB, demonstrated divergent trajectories in BP outcomes between early adenotonsillectomy and watchful waiting. Children in the adenotonsillectomy group experienced a decrease in BP percentiles from baseline, whereas BP percentiles increased in the watchful waiting group.These findings highlight the potential positive cardiovascular impact of early adenotonsillectomy in children with mild oSDB.
