What are the incidence, mortality, and survival trends in screening program cancers (breast, cervical, and colon) in First Nations people in Ontario, Canada, compared with other Ontario residents? This cohort study of more than 12 million people (representing the largest of multiple annual cohorts) found that although trends improved over time for both First Nations people and other Ontario residents, cervical and colon cancer incidence and mortality were higher among First Nations people, while breast cancer incidence and mortality were lower. Survival after cancer diagnosis was lower for First Nations people. These findings suggest that despite progress over time, disparities persist for First Nations people, highlighting the need for better prevention and postdiagnostic care to improve outcomes.
