Health Status Changes and Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation
JAMA Network Open 10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2026.17776June 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT
Is patient-reported health status improvement within the first year after atrial fibrillation treatment associated with a lower risk of adverse clinical outcomes? In this cohort study of 2744 patients with atrial fibrillation who were newly diagnosed or newly referred for its management, patient-reported 1-year improvement in health status was independently associated with a reduced risk of all-cause death, heart failure hospitalization, or stroke or transient ischemic attack over the following 4 years. These findings underscore the prognostic importance of improving patients’ health status, further supporting its role as a therapeutic target.
