Quality of Life Following Traumatic Brain Injury Among Older Adults

Do quantitative survey measures of quality of life and functional status comprehensively assess recovery among older adults following traumatic brain injury?In this qualitative study using multiple methods with 29 patients and 13 caregivers, most participants scored in the good recovery range on quantitative measures. However, qualitative analysis of interviews revealed additional themes of adaptation, including reliance on support systems, emotional reframing, and the need for clearer guidance for life after discharge.The findings of this study suggest that recovery after traumatic brain injury in older adults extends beyond what is reflected in standard scales, underscoring the importance of incorporating patient perspectives into outcome assessment.
