Are glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) associated with cardiovascular and kidney outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes, and do these associations differ by body mass index (BMI)?In this cohort study of 97 156 adults with type 2 diabetes, use of GLP-1 RAs was associated with significantly lower risks of major adverse cardiovascular events, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure among patients with BMI of 25 or greater. Kidney benefits associated with GLP-1 RAs were consistent across BMI categories. These findings suggest that cardiovascular benefits of GLP-1 RAs may be modified by BMI, while kidney benefits were consistent regardless of BMI, supporting individualized treatment decisions in type 2 diabetes care.
