What is the global prevalence of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), and how does it vary by age, sex, geographical location, body mass index, smoking status, gross domestic product, and Human Development Index? This meta-analysis included 22 743 participants, identifying 247 patients with HS, and prevalence estimates showed considerable variations. The overall global prevalence of HS was 0.99%, and female sex was the only factor observed to be associated with HS prevalence. This study found considerable global variation in HS prevalence, but further studies are needed to investigate the underlying causes of the substantial global variations in HS prevalence.
