Device-Assisted vs Standard Valsalva Maneuver for Terminating Supraventricular Tachycardia
JAMA Cardiology 10.1001/jamacardio.2025.5489February 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM EST
Can a Valsalva assist device (a small handheld tool) result in greater rates of sinus rhythm restoration in patients with supraventricular tachycardia than standard Valsalva? In this prespecified analysis of a randomized clinical trial involving 212 patients with supraventricular tachycardia, participants with Valsalva assist device had a significantly higher cardioversion rate compared with standard Valsalva. No serious adverse events were observed. This favorable efficacy difference supports the device’s potential value in optimizing Valsalva maneuver delivery for patients with supraventricular tachycardia.
